"You FORGOT the Fried Chicken?!"

We pulled a really mean trick on Mike and told him, after we'd driven about an hour and a half through the Cascades, that Delores and I had forgotten to pack the fried chicken in the picnic basket. His face registered disbelief, then sorry acceptance, then he just said, "Well, Sh*t." Right in front of the kids. Hahahaha, it was pretty funny, actually...and then we had to say, "Guys, forget what you just heard!

What fun we had pulling out the container of fried chicken. :)

Plan A for the day had been to drive to Mt. Ranier and picnic there ("lupper," which is eaten between lunch and supper!). But the weather showed dark clouds and storms. Plan B was to drive to Lake Chelan, where it's almost always sunny. But about halfway there we were all just HUNGRY and ready to eat, so we stumbled upon a little state park and called it Picnic Time!

We love fried chicken!

Delores had made carrot and raisin salad, potato salad, fried chicken, and biscuits while Mike, Ollie, and I accompanied Merrit to a doctor's appointment in the morning.

What a treat this picnic was! Thanks for fixing it all, Delores!

Mmmmmm!

Really, you can throw a stick in this state and find a state or national park.

We had a somewhat overcast day, but at least we escaped the rain back
in Seattle!

Wildflowers.

Nearby apple orchards.

After we ate, Clyde and I hung around the picnic area while the intrepid explorers of our group hiked up to the top of Peshastin Pinnacles. Mike took some photos of their hike but those pictures were lost when Mike's canoe capsized with iPhone-in-pocket (but that's another blog post for another day). Here are a few pics I took as the hikers descended the mountain.

Descending...

Getting closer...

And heading back down to the car....
