Donger Does Seattle

Y'all know Dawn, right? If not, here's the quick backstory: We met in seventh grade. Laughing at Mrs. Combs. Passing notes. Having sleepovers. Watching movies. Eating ramen and ravioli. Our Columbia House memberships (13 tapes for 1 cent!). Our Madonna phase. Our Kevin Costner phase. How we tried to get a summer job painting Indians on the set of Last of the Mohicans. And our REAL summer jobs: me working for my dad; Dawn working as a lifeguard. Getting our licenses. My Sentra. Our brown-nosing ways. (Sad but true.) Chinese restaurants. Doing homework together. "Mir-and-Dawn Moviethons." High school graduation. Four years of college. Rooming together our junior year at Collier Place. UNC vs. NCSU rivalry. (Go Wolfpack!) All the many nicknames: Donger, Porker, Drip, Stimpy, and Eggor. Her move to L.A. to break into the movie biz. And the 20 years since then...still friends through it all. And now, here she is, visiting us in Seattle!

Dawn arrived on Thursday afternoon. We didn't do much on Thursday night...just attended Merrit's school performance. Friday was a lazy day, but we did manage to get out for a short trail run and a mini park-workout while the boys were in school.

On Saturday, we headed into Seattle. It wasn't the prettiest day; it was sort of overcast. But we went to Pike Place Market. Then a water-view table at Lowell's restaurant for lunch. Then a quick stop off at the Space Needle for a photo-op. Then back home for a low-key evening at home. Here are the highlights...

Friends since 1985. Pike Place Market.

Tulip vendor.

Fresh honey.

Pussy willow branches. Love these. Pricey though...

Been there done that, but didn't get the Tshirt.

Huge crabs. Ollie looks hungry, or mischievous, or both.

My mouth is watering.

Not so much...

Merrit checking out some of the worlds largest shoes.

Ollie getting a bird's eye view of the market shops and
crowds.

The boys posing with some of their favorite characters
from Star Wars outside a comic book store.

I had this same Tshirt in middle school! (Can't say I "filled
it out" quite this well, though!)

Love all the neon signs in the market.

The produce is so beautifully displayed. It smells great, too.

Where we grabbed lunch.

Almost classy.

On the third story of the restaurant, overlooking the ferry boats coming
and going.

The distance shot.

The close-up. (Donger hates close-ups!)

Ollie was wiped out by the time we started back
on the drive home. :)
