Like Being at Tesco!

How surprised was I to stumble across the English food section of a grocery store here (which, surprisingly, is supposed to specialize in locally grown/sourced foods). I had to whip out my iPhone and take some pics. I felt nostalgic just looking through the familiar packages and brand names.

Ah, England....

At least now we can get a little taste of England when we're missing her. Jammie Dodger, anyone? Or spotted dick in a can, perhaps?

Fruit Pastilles. Jammie Dodgers. And curry mix.

When we moved to England, I could find pickled everything,
but not cucumbers. Here are some pickled onions and beets.
And HP Sauce! And salad cream (a.k.a. mayonnaise).

More desserts, cookies, and candies.

Jacob's Cream Crackers...always in our pantry back in
England. Marmite and Vegemite (never tried either one).
Yorkshire pudding mix, rice pudding in a can.

Concentrate that you water down for kids,
called a cordial, is very popular with English kids.

On the other side of the store, a sausage selection that would make any
Brit proud! Ah, makes me miss Nicholson's Butcher in Whitley Bay.

  1. Is the green label HP the Fruity?? We got it a few times at World Market some time ago but they stopped carrying it. After not spotting it on our one UK grocery pickup of take-back-home's we just figured they stopped making it. It's far more universal for food complimenting, seasoning and marinating than the regular HP.
